Data Standards Specialist – 6 Month Contract – £160/day – Fully Remote – Inside IR35 – NHS

My client is looking for a Data Standards Specialist to develop the data standards for the end-to-end collection and utilisation of data covering administrative, clinical and managerial uses. You will be responsible for assessing the data standards required to support effective analysis of data from operational and management information systems. You will engage with a broad range of stakeholders to determine their information requirement and the required data standards to deliver the requirement. They will liaise across the Portfolio Management Office and Project teams, ensuring that changes are communicated and their impact assessed both on local and national data processing procedures.

Data Standards Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Highly developed specialist knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience.
  • Experience of investigating options available to meet new information requirements and making recommendations on the solutions available to meet these new requirements.
  • Proven experience of thinking in a creative and innovative way to develop information standards.
  • Judgements involving highly complex facts or situations, which required the analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options.
  • Maintain awareness of data standards developments across the UK, assessing impact on the NHS and make recommendations as required.
  • Well-developed analytical skills, must have experience of analysing highly complex information requirements to ensure the data and information standards are developed to meet these requirements.
  • Oversee and ensure processes are in place to develop data and information standards and respond to queries relating to such standards on a daily basis.
  • Undertake intensive evaluation of the national business and information requirements to determine how the data to support these need to be defined, sometimes involving researching and recommending compromises where precise data is not available.
  • Planning and organisation of a number of complex activities or programmes, which require the formulation and adjustment of plans.
  • Responsible for co-ordinating responses to multiple projects and developments, requiring judgement on relative priorities.
  • Responsible for ensuring projects and allocated work for the team are delivered to agreed timescales, managing competing priorities. This may include reprioritising of work programmes which needs to be negotiated with stakeholders, within and out with the organisation.
  • The Postholder will have advanced and accurate key board skills for manipulating specialist and bespoke software, and presenting complex information.
  • Responsible for evaluating Welsh Assembly Policy, and specific project information requirements; developing guidance for NHS organisations to ensure highly complex national information standards are implemented and met.
  • Authorised signatory for small cash / financial payments.
  • Line manage support staff, supporting their training and development.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining and monitoring NHS Portfolio Taxonomies and Dictionaries.
  • Regular requirement to use computer software to develop or create reports, documents and drawings.
  • Research and maintain an excellent understanding of the information standards to be applied in NHS and other home countries relating to portfolio and healthcare information.
  • Regularly undertakes R&D activity as a requirement of the job.
  • Work to achieve agreed objectives and be given autonomy to do this in own way working within broad IM&T and service led policies and principles.
  • Act without reference to manager, exercising judgement and initiative on the issues which need to be escalated to their manager.
  • Act as a lead specialist in data management and service business issues.
